What Is Your Location – New York

In March 2013 I installed What is your Location?, a text intervention in 23 of New York’s 11,000 mostly unused phone booths. These posters display a  found poem I came across whilst researching Morse Code. Q-Code is a Morse short hand – made up of a Q and two other letters – which originated for the use of the Coast Guard. This sample of Q-Code is a distillation of all human interaction – trying to work out where others are in relation to ourselves. I first found it after telling a good friend, who was in a relationship at the time, that I was in love with him but before he had responded.  Through this intervention I sought to draw attention to our basic human need for connectedness and communication.
